WOMAN PLED GUILTY TO 2ND DEGREE ARSON AND SENTENCED

Wright County Prosecutor John Tyrrell announces that on May 5, 2022, Judge Carter sentenced Racheal Kirk to 120-day Institutional Treatment Program and 7 years at the Missouri Department of Corrections for 2nd degree Arson.

On June 2, 2020, Kirk had been drinking and arguing with her then boyfriend, now husband, who at the time resided with his 82-year-old grandmother in her home of 44 years. During the argument, Kirk went out to a storage building, retrieved a can of gasoline, and poured it all over her boyfriend’s bed. She then lit the bed on fire and left. The house was a total loss. A victim impact statement was read in court by the victim’s daughter on her behalf. The case was investigated by the Wright County Sheriff’s Office.

“This is a good result for this case.  I want to thank my staff, Erin, Brenda, Shawna, Sabrina and Terra at the Prosecutor’s Office for their work on this matter.  The victim is an elderly woman that lost everything in the fire.  We took additional steps to preserve her testimony at a future trial if necessary.  I am glad we were able to bring this case to a conclusion for the vicitm.” says John Tyrrell, Wright County Prosecutor.
