Child Sex Offender and Attempted Jail Escape Sentenced

John Tyrrell the Wright County Prosecutor announces that on June 4, 2020, the Defendant James Dugger was sentenced to prison for statutory sodomy second degree and attempted jail escape.  The Defendant entered a guilty plea that resulted in a sentence of seven years for statutory sodomy second degree and four years for attempted escape from the jail, and assault in the third degree special victim (law enforcement), sentences to run concurrent probation denied.  The Wright County Sheriff’s Office investigated the cases.  Judge Craig Carter heard both cases and sentenced the Defendant.

“This is a good result for the County and most importantly the child victim.  Defendant Dugger is going to the Missouri Department of Corrections for his crimes.  We accomplished justice without having a trial that would have resulted in the child victim taking the witness stand. I also want to thank Jailer Shawna Schults and Dispatcher Brenda Dinwiddie for their quick action that prevented the Defendant from escaping the jail.” says Prosecutor John Tyrrell.
